Metro-North is currently undertaking a research initiative to understand the technologies and methodologies that can collect and analyze data pertaining to pedestrian movement patterns in and around Grand Central Terminal (GCT). As part of this effort, Metro-North will host a showcase at the Urban Tech Hub to learn about cutting edge solutions that could be used for pedestrian counting and/or the analysis and simulation of pedestrian data within GCT.
Pedestrian volumes at GCT are expected to continue to grow over the coming years due to a variety of factors including: continued growth in Metro-North ridership, the opening of East Side Access, the recent rezoning of Midtown East, GCT’s continued popularity as a tourist site, and as a destination for retail and food.
